Sylvie Gagnon-Parent

A lifelong dancer, from ballet to lambada

Sylvie started dancing classical ballet at the age of 3 and has never stopped dancing since. With her boundless energy, she quickly added other styles to her repertoire, such as hip-hop, contemporary dance, belly dance, Scottish dance—but it was jazz ballet that truly captured her heart in her youth, and she practiced it for over 15 years. As an adult, she discovered Latin dances and devoted several years to it. Starting in 2006, she became a member of the salsa lady styling troupe Audrey's Angels, with whom she performed for 17 years.

In 2012, she discovered Brazilian zouk through Interfusion Danse and fell in love with the style. This marked the beginning of several years of training and refining her skills through classes, congresses, travels, and teacher training programs. In 2016, she began teaching for Interfusion Danse and created her first duet choreography with Sébastien Boisvert. She continued collaborating and teaching with various zouk schools in Montreal over the years. In 2018 and 2019, she took part in organizing a zouk festival in Montreal: GYZO.

In 2022, she co-founded Urban Zouk Montreal with Louis-Christophe Laurin, a troupe that blends Brazilian zouk and urban dance in dynamic choreographies. In 2022 and 2023, she participated in two intensive lambada retreats and soon began teaching and choreographing this style in collaboration with the Ilha Lambada school.
